INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY
- Patent Law
- A patent is an exclusive property right to exclude others from making, using, selling, offering for sale, or importing the patented invention for 20 years. Patents are granted by the Federal government to inventors in exchange for their agreement to share the details of their invention with the public. Patents provide incentives to undergo research and development efforts and to encourage the disclosure of innovations into the public domain for the common good.
- Strategic Legal Counseling attorneys are registered to practice Patent Law by the United States Patent and Trademark Office. SLC attorneys guide clients through the entire patent process, from determining patentability of an idea, to filing for a patent, to responding or appealing any rejection of patent application, to litigating any patent infringement actions.
- Trademark Law
- A trademark is a distinctive mark or sign or indicator used by individuals and businesses to identify that the products or services with which the trademark appears originate from a unique source and to distinguish them from those of other persons or businesses. A trademark can be a name, word, phrase, logo, symbol, design, image, or a combination of these elements. Trademarks are designed to prevent the public from being misled as to the origin or quality of a product or service. Trademarks also serve as an incentive for individuals and businesses to provide quality products or services in order to maintain their business reputation.
